Cape Town's Weather
Cape Town's summer starts around October and it can be hot well into April. In mid summer the days can be extremely hot and dry, with the warmest months probably January and February. If sun and beach are what you looking for, these are the best times to visit Cape Town. Average summer days are around 27 degrees with 11 or more hours sunshine a day. If you are looking for slightly cooler weather but still sunny days - September, October, March and April are good months to visit too.
The City receives its rain in winter season from around May to August every year. These months are the greenest and it can be wet for days with some beautiful sunny days in between. A sunny day in winter is for many the most beautiful of them all - the fields are green and the crispy colours beautiful. Average max winter temperatures are around 18 degrees.
The City is becoming very popular in winter months, especially for second time visitors. With so much to see and do in winter, and with accommodation prices much cheaper than those in summer, this is the perfect opportunity to combine a cosy visit to Cape Town with a safari in the northern parts of the country. The winter months are the best time for Big 5 game watching as the visibility is much better and game tend to group around waterholes.
