| When and how will I be billed for my South Africa Car Rental? | You will be billed by Tempest Car Hire directly during collection of your vehicle, and not during time of booking. You will however receive instant booking confirmation that a car has been reserved for you. You can rest assure that a car will be available for you on arrival at the Car Rental office once you have received your Reservation voucher into your email. Upon collection of the rental vehicle, your embossed credit card (credit cards with raised digits), will be charged with the rental amount (i.e. the charge for your car rental), an additional days rental (refundable deposit) and a tank of fuel (refundable deposit). Upon return of the vehicle and when your final invoice has been calculated, any monies due back to you will be refunded (meaning that the extra day's deposit and tank of fuel deposit will be refunded / released back onto your credit card if you return your car within the agreed rental days and with a full tank of fuel again - please note that you will receive a full tank of fuel when collecting your car). Additionally an excess authorisation hold (refundable deposit) will be authorised over your credit card when collecting your car, this excess hold will be released back onto your credit card when returning the car in the same condition. (the excess hold is released immediately by Tempest back onto your credit card, but may take a day or two to reflect as available again on your credit card - please contact your Bank should this happen) |

| Is there an Excess and how does the Excess work with Car Rentals? | The excess amount is the amount that the Renter is liable for (up to) in the event of accident, damage or theft, if the Renter has acted within the rental terms and conditions. The excess amounts are as follows: Super Cover: Group A - R 2 500 Group T - R 2 500 Group B - R 2 950 Group D - R 3 950 Group I - R 4 000 Group E - R 6 500 Standard Cover: Group A - R 6 500 (excess authorisation deposit required R 2500) Group T - R 8 500 (excess authorisation deposit required R 2500) Group B - R 10 000 (excess authorisation deposit required R 2950) Group D - R 10 000 (excess authorisation deposit required R 3950) Group I - R 10 000 (excess authorisation deposit required R 4000) Group E - R 20 000 (excess authorisation deposit required R 12000) Tempest will authorise an excess hold during the collection of the car on the main driver's credit card. | How much is the refundable deposit that will be authorised over my credit card? | Tempest
pre-bill your credit card with the rental amount, an additional day
and a tank of fuel. They also take an additional excess authorization
hold, these amounts are shown on the T&C's table pertinent to this clause. When you return
the vehicle, and its full with fuel, and its within the original dates
booked, Tempest refund the extra day and the tank of fuel. If not, then
they reconcile accordingly. The excess hold is also released back onto your credit card when returning your car in the same condition. |
| What documents are required at the rental counter when I collect the Car? | You must produce a valid embossed* Credit Card (no Debit Cards, cheque cards or cash!) to collect your car. (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Diners accepted - local or international credit cards welcome) The Credit Card MUST be in the main Driver's name. No cars will be issued without the Credit Card in the Driver's name. *(embossed means that the digits on the credit card are raised). (South African credit cards - please note that budget facility transactions are not allowed - only straight transactions) The Driver must hold and present a valid and unendorsed Drivers License and must be present during the Car Rental collection and return. Driver/s must have legally driven in their home country for at least two years prior to renting a vehicle. Driver/s must also present a valid ID or Passport, as well as the Booking Confirmation that you receive in your email after online reservation. Please note that although we do not request your Credit Card details during the reservation, it is still compulsory to have a valid Credit Card and present it to the Car rental office during the collection of your car. No cash, cheques cards or debit cards including Maestro and Electron debit cards are accepted. International Customers: You will be required to apply for an International Drivers license (in English) if your Drivers License is not in English. Alternatively you can also get an English translation from your Traffic Department in your home country (on the Traffic Department's official letterhead / stamped / certified by your Traffic Department) if your drivers license is not in English. All other requirements and terms and conditions remain the same. Please take your Original Drivers License together with your International Drivers license OR your Original Drivers License together with the Official English translation from your local Traffic Department to South Africa. If your drivers license is in English you do not have to apply for an International Drivers license or translation. All licenses produced must be unendorsed. | Where do I Amend or Cancel a Car Rental booking? | Please remember to amend or cancel your booking if your travel arrangements have changed. Amend or Cancel an existing booking here. |
| Can I rent a car without a credit card? | Unfortunately not. The only method of payment is by embossed credit card (embossed means that the digits on the credit card are raised). Regrettably Tempest does not accept debit cards, cheques, cash or bank transfers. |
| Traffic Fines? | The Renter is liable for payment of all traffic fines. Tempest charges a R175 traffic fine handling fee. |
| What about afterhours rentals? | Tempest's airport locations operate 24/7 or stay open until last flight leaves/arrives. In the case of downtown locations, an after hours surcharge of R110 will apply. Please contact Cape Spirit if unsure. |
| How much are the one way fees? (collect and return the car to a different location) | Tempest charges between R150 and R800 for a one way rental between regions. The one way fee amount will display during online reservation, if applicable. (If locations are close to each other, there is usually not a one way fee - please refer to online reservation.) |
| Can I rent a babyseat? | Baby seats are available at R50 per day, capped at R200 per rental. Our baby seats are suitable for toddlers up to 14 kg's. Please note that baby seats are subject to availability. |
| Can Tempest deliver and/or collect a rental car? | Tempest can deliver or collect the vehicle. Delivery and collection charges are as follows:- < 25 kms : R220.00 during office hours; R440.00 after hours > 25 kms : R220.00 during office hours; R440.00 after hours + R4.40 per extra km |
| Is there a minimum age to rent a car from Tempest Car Hire? | The minimum age to hire a vehicle from Tempest is 23. |
| Should I return the car with a full tank of petrol? | Vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel. Please return the car with a full tank of fuel again. If not, you are charged for refill on termination of the contract. A R20 service fee is levied if Tempest has to refuel the vehicle. |
